Dean joined Thoits Insurance in 2001 with 35 years of diversified management, sales and technical insurance experience. He began his insurance career as an underwriter at Safeco Insurance Company. Later, he joined Industrial Indemnity as their Commercial Manager, rising to Vice President before leaving in 1990 to join Jardines Insurance Brokers (now Aon) as an Executive Vice President.
Dean is an instructor for the Insurance Educational Association and the Insurance School of the Pacific. His teaching assignments include being selected to instruct Japanese insurance company personnel in American insurance practice.
He is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and is active in the society of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU), serving as the Santa Clara chapter's president and as a director and officer of the national society.
Dean holds the CPCU, CLU, and ARM designations and has received numerous industry awards, including 2001 Insurance Professional of the Year.
